[Report] National Speech Contest in Sapporo: A Huge Win for Omiya TMC! 1st and 3rd Place Among 200 Clubs Across Japan!!

先日お伝えした通り、毎年開催されているスピーチコンテストにおいて、大宮トーストマスターズから2名の全国大会ファイナリストが選出されました。

As previously announced, two members from Omiya Toastmasters were selected as national finalists for the annual speech contest.

そして2026年4月18日（土）19日（日）、北海道は札幌市の北海道大学にて開催された「2026年テーブルトピックス＆スピーチコンテスト全国大会」にユースケが応援に行ってきましたのでレポートします。

On Saturday, April 18th and Sunday, April 19th, 2026, Yusuke traveled to Hokkaido University in Sapporo to cheer on our finalists at the "2026 District 76 Table Topics & Speech Contest." Here is his event report.

◆Day1　オープニング、基調講演　Opening & Keynote Speeches

オープニングでは参加クラブがそれぞれのバナーを掲げステージに出場します。大宮クラブは実はバナーを持ってないために、泣く泣く参加できなかったのでちゃんと作成しようと思いました。

その後、コンテスト前に基調講演が２本ありました。１本目は２０２５年世界大会３位のアレンさんによる英語公演、２本目は２０１５年日本語チャンピョンのマーサさんによる日本語講演でした。どちらもとても興味深い内容でしたが、特にマーサさんの公演中のリラックス体操がとても楽しかったです。

At the opening ceremony, participating clubs marched onto the stage, each proudly displaying their club banner. Since Omiya Club doesn't actually have a banner yet, we sadly had to sit this one out—it made me realize we definitely need to make one!

Following that, there were two keynote speeches before the contest. The first was an English keynote by Mr. Allen, the 3rd-place winner of the 2025 World Championship, and the second was a Japanese keynote by Martha-san, the 2015 Japanese Speech Champion. Both were incredibly insightful, but I especially enjoyed the relaxation exercises Martha-san led during her talk.

◆Day1 テーブルトピックススピーチコンテスト（日・英）　Table Topics Speech Contest (Japanese & English)

いよいよ我らが大宮クラブの２名を含めた７名が激突するテーブルトピックスコンテストです。共通する１つのお題を各地区代表の７名がその場で初めて聞き、即興で２分程度でスピーチするというコンテストになります。

Aさんは日本語３番目、Oさんは日本語６番目です。二人とも、出されたお題に対して迷いも見せずに堂々としたスピーチをし、会場は大いに盛り上がりました。

Finally, it was time for the Table Topics Contest, where seven finalists—including two from our very own Omiya Club—faced off. In this contest, seven district representatives are given the same prompt for the first time on stage and must deliver an impromptu 2-minute speech.

Member A was the 3rd speaker, and Member O was the 6th in the Japanese division. Both of them delivered powerful, confident speeches without a hint of hesitation, and the audience absolutely loved it!

◆Day1 レセプションパーティー＆結果発表　Reception & Awards Ceremony

夕刻からは立食パーティーでの懇親会が始まりました。途中でテーブルトピックスコンテストの結果発表がありました。

結果はなんと、、

Aさん３位！！そしてOさん１位！！！

全国約２００クラブからの快挙です。

In the evening, the networking reception began with a buffet-style party. Midway through the event, the results of the Table Topics Contest were announced.

And the results were...

Member A took 3rd Place!! And Member O took 1st Place!!!

表彰３人中２人が大宮クラブ所属であることがわかるとパーティー会場はざわつきます。応援で行った私もとても誇らしく感じる瞬間でした。その後２人は会場中の注目を浴びることになるのでした。

The venue started buzzing when the audience realized that two of the three award winners were from Omiya Toastmasters. As a fellow member who came to support them, it was a moment of immense pride. From that point on, the two of them were the center of attention in the room!

◆Day2 日本語スピーチコンテスト&インターナショナルスピーチコンテスト

Japanese Speech Contest & International Speech Contest

２日目は出場者が予め準備したスピーチを披露するコンテストです。私は時間の都合上、日本語スピーチだけの参加となりましたが、いずれも胸がいっぱいになる感動するスピーチばかりでした。いつかはステージに立てるようなスピーカーになりたいと思いつつ、北海道を後にしました。

The second day featured the prepared speech contests. Due to time constraints, I could only attend the Japanese Speech Contest, but every single speech was deeply moving and filled my heart with emotion. I left Hokkaido feeling inspired, hoping that one day I too can become a speaker worthy of standing on that stage.
